Overview of Membership
Membership with the South African Chaplain Association (SACA) provides para-professional standing and status to individuals working in formal and informal sector care levels. This membership is valid for one year, and members are required to renew their membership annually by paying the membership fee within 365 days of registration.
Renewal and Obligations
Upon renewal, members receive a registration certificate for the year, which must be displayed in their office, and a membership card for personal use. Members are responsible for ensuring their membership is renewed, regardless of receiving a renewal notice.
Constitution and Ethical Code
All members are provided with a constitution and ethical code, which serve as guidelines for professional practice. These documents ensure that all members maintain consistent and ethical standards within their field.
Membership Categories
Membership is categorized based on the level of academic and professional training. Members are encouraged to continue their professional development through lifelong learning, with the option to upgrade their membership based on further qualifications or experience.
Criteria for Annual Membership Renewal
- To maintain good standing, members must ensure the following criteria are met:
- Membership renewal fees are paid on time
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training is up-to-date
- Ethical integrity is maintained
- Professional performance is deemed acceptable
- Business conduct meets SACA’s standards
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Candidates who do not possess the required qualifications may still apply for membership based on their professional competence or counseling experience. A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) panel assesses such applicants by evaluating their informal and non-formal learning, as well as work experience, against accredited qualifications. If suitable, the RPL panel makes a recommendation for membership to the Board in accordance with the SACA RPL policy.
RPL Application Process RPL application forms are available at the SACA office for those wishing to apply for recognition based on prior learning and experience.
